Hospital admission

As a rule, hospitalization at the Tokyo Metropolitan Neurological Hospital ("this hospital") is determined through examination from a doctor at the Tokyo Metropolitan Tama Medical Center or one of the Tokyo Metropolitan Children's Medical Center outpatient clinics.
Patients scheduled to be admitted to the hospital but do not yet have an admission date will be notified by phone from the hospital once the date and time have been set. Generally, notification will be given within one or two days of admission, so we request that you make preparations ahead of time.

First day of your hospital stay

Please come to the information counter on the first floor by 10:00 am to arrange for admission to hospital.
Please bring the following items for admission.

Patient ID card (Neurological Hospital, Tama Medical Center, and Children's Medical Center)
Personal seal (inkan) (if applicable)
Health insurance card or other medical care certificates issued in Japan (if applicable)
After admission procedures are complete, a nurse will escort you to your ward.

Visiting hours

Visiting hours are as follows. Please be punctual.
Type of ward -- Visiting hours
General ward: 11:00 a.m. to-8:00 p.m.
ICU: 11:00 a.m. to-12:00 p.m. / 3:00 p.m.-to 7:00 p.m.

Rules for visitors

Visitors are required to sign the visitors book at the security office on the first floor. They will then receive a badge for visitors that must be displayed.
Please contact a nurse at the nurses' station before visiting a ward patient.
Please refrain from eating or drinking anything in the patient rooms.
To protect the privacy of the patients, no personal information is provided on the phone.
To prevent the spread of infectious disease, children may be restricted from visiting a patient.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the hospital area.

Parking

If you are a visitor, please park in the Tama Medical Center pay parking area. You may be eligible for a parking discount. Please check at the information counter on the first floor when leaving the hospital.
Parking space is limited as the area in front of the hospital is reserved for patient drop-off/pick-up during admission/discharge. Should you need to park, please purchase a parking ticket for display at the information counter on the first floor. The parking ticket is valid for up to 2 hours.
Buses to Tama Medical Center operate from JR Nishi-Kokubunji Station, JR Kokubunji Station, JR Kunitachi Station and Fuchu Station (Keio Line).

Hospitalization fees

If you would like to know the estimated cost of your hospital stay, please contact a ward nurse or the medical office on the first floor.
During your hospital stay, you will be charged for the cost of the previous month around the 10th of each month. You will receive an invoice on the ward. Please make all payments at the medical accounts desk in the medical office on the first floor.

Leaving the hospital

Before discharge, you will receive an invoice (taiin kaikei renraku-hyo) on the ward. Please make all payments at the medical accounts desk in the medical office on the first floor. Even if no payment is required, please submit the taiin kaikei renraku-hyo to the medical accounts desk.

Monday through Friday: 9:00 a.m.-to 5:00 p.m. / Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. to-12:30 p.m.

Seeing a doctor after discharge

If you require ongoing treatment as an outpatient at Tama Medical Center or the Children's Medical Center after discharge, please contact us to receive an explanation concerning how to arrange a visit with your doctor.

Medical certificates

If you request a medical certificate, please contact the medical office on the first floor.
It normally takes about 2 weeks to be issued a medical certificate.
If you would like to receive a medical certificate at discharge, please make arrangements beforehand.

Others

We do not under any circumstances accept any presents such as cash.

The above items can also be purchased at the shop on the third floor of the hospital.
Days and hours: Weekdays (Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.), Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.)
Patients scheduled for a surgical procedure will be informed by a nurse what other items will be needed after admission.
It is useful to bring change and a phone (calling) card.
We cannot hold large amounts of cash or valuables for you, so please do not bring these items.
ATMs are available near the main entrance of the Tokyo Metropolitan Tama Medical Center.

Hospital rooms

Hospital rooms typically have four beds. Rooms have bedside cabinets, sinks, and personal lockers.
You may be requested to change rooms for treatment-related reasons. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Patients can use special suites upon request for an additional fee.
Single-occupancy rooms are 9,000 yen/day, and double-occupancy rooms are 2,500 yen/day.
Please make any room requests when making your hospital admission appointment.
When using a special suite, you may be moved to a different room to accommodate any patients who require a single-occupancy room for treatment reasons. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Meals

Meals are served at the following times:
Breakfast: around 7:30 a.m.
Lunch: around 12:00 p.m.
Dinner: around 6:00 p.m.
As a part of your medical treatment while you are in the hospital, the hospital will cater to your personal dietary needs when possible. If you have lost your appetite, please inform a dietitian.
Please inform your nurse of any personal dietary needs (e.g., for religious reasons).

Your attending physician

An attending physician will be chosen for your care during your hospital stay.
Even if your attending doctor is not available, you will be able to receive medical care.
Your attending physician will provide you with the most suitable treatment.
Your attending physician will clearly explain results of any examinations, the diagnosis, and the suggested treatment. If you have any questions or requests, please notify your doctor or nurse at any time.

Nursing system

An attending nurse will also be chosen for your care during your hospital stay.
Nurses care for the patients on rotating shifts.
If your nurse is not available, please contact the head nurse or any other ward nurses on duty.

Patient supporters

All care during your hospital stay will be provided by the nurses, so no assistance from your friends and family will be necessary.
However, depending on your medical condition or other reasons, if you feel the need for additional support, please contact a doctor or nurse.

Prescription medications

A guide for prescription medications is available. If you would like to reference this guide, please inform the doctor or nurse.

Rules for your hospital stay

Please follow the instructions of your doctor and nurse to receive optimal treatment.
As mobile phones may interfere with medical equipment, their use is limited to specific areas on each floor within the hospital (day room, common room)[Author: Does this reflect your intended meaning?]. Please power off your mobile phone when not in these areas.
A public payphone is available for use on each floor.
We do not forward calls to patients, except in an emergency. However, we will let patients know if they received a phone call.
You may use a computer if it does not affect any medical equipment. Please inform your doctor or nurse if you would like to use your computer.
If you would like to use other electronic devices, please take care not to bother other patients.
You may use the TV (for a fee) and radio (for free) in your room.You may use the self-service laundry facilities in each ward (for a fee).
The ward lights are turned off at 10:00 p.m. (the children's ward lights are turned off at 9:00 p.m.)
You will need your doctor's permission to exit or stay overnight outside the hospital. If you wish to exit the hospital for any reason, please contact your doctor or nurse.
Please refrain from taking pictures of staff and other patients while you are in the hospital.
If an emergency occurs, such as an earthquake or fire, please remain calm, follow the directions of the doctors, nurses, or hospital staff, and evacuate to a safe area. Do not use the elevator during emergencies.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the hospital area.
